Santa Rosa County to begin hurricane debris pickup Oct. 14

| Staff Reporters

Crews across Santa Rosa County will begin the first pass of debris collection Wednesday, Oct. 14, with county officials asking residents to sort and place debris.

Santa Rosa County officials say storm debris removal will begin Oct. 14.

Residents should place storm debris along the public right-of-way, near the strip between the street and a sidewalk.

Debris, such as tree limbs, branches, leaves and shrubs, should be placed in a separate pile from construction debris. The two types will be collected separately.

Only loose debris will be picked up, according to county officials. Bagged debris should not be placed at the curb.

The county also asked residents to keep piles away from drainage ditches, storm drains, mailboxes, power lines, transformers and other utilities, and to keep roadways clear for emergency vehicles.

Debris not taken on the first pass should be left separated and easily attainable for later collection pickups.

Normal household garbage, such as spoiled food, should go in regular trash containers and not be mixed with storm debris.
