Lighthouse Christian College earns national TRACS accreditation

For Lighthouse Christian College (LCC), a growing Christian institution headquartered in Gulf Breeze, a recent accreditation achievement marks the beginning of an exciting new chapter.

The college has officially received full accreditation through the Transnational Association of Christian Colleges and Schools (TRACS), a nationally recognized accrediting agency endorsed by the U.S. Department of Education and the Council for Higher Education Accreditation. The accomplishment places Lighthouse among fully accredited institutions and opens the door to significant new opportunities for current and prospective students.

The Lighthouse leadership team smiles for a group photo after receiving their full TRACS accreditation. Pictured from left to right are VP of Student Services Ricky Broxson, President Dr. Joanna Johannes, CFO Vicki Hanks and VP of Institutional Effectiveness Dr. Pete Belmain.

According to Dr. Joanna Johannes, president and CEO of Lighthouse Christian College, the accreditation is the culmination of years of work and positions the school for substantial growth.

“This is big news,” Dr. Johannes said, noting that full accreditation allows Lighthouse to participate in federal and state financial aid programs that were previously unavailable.

Among the most significant benefits, eligible students can now access GI Bill education benefits, Federal Pell Grants and Florida Bright Futures scholarships, making a Christian college education more attainable for a wider range of students and families.

“We are excited to announce that all high schools, public and private, can use LCC for transferable, accredited credits through dual enrollment,” Dr. Johannes said.

Founded with a mission to provide Christ-centered higher education, Lighthouse Christian College has built a unique model that combines flexible online learning with hands-on opportunities in athletics and student support. While the college serves students across the state through its online academic programs, its physical presence remains firmly rooted in Northwest Florida.

The institution’s administration building is located in Pensacola, while athletic facilities span multiple locations, including a baseball field in Milton and football facilities and corporate offices in Gulf Breeze. According to Johannes, the academic side of the college is delivered primarily online, allowing students to pursue their degrees from virtually anywhere.

That flexibility has become increasingly attractive to students seeking faith-based education without the limitations of a traditional campus experience.

In addition to its academic offerings, Lighthouse has developed a rapidly expanding athletics program. Competing as the Makos, the college currently offers men’s basketball, baseball and football, while also promoting men’s golf opportunities. The athletic program has helped attract student-athletes from across the region and beyond, creating a vibrant community that blends competition, character development and Christian values.

College leaders believe the combination of accredited academics, online convenience and competitive athletics sets Lighthouse apart in today’s higher education landscape.

The TRACS accreditation process is known for its rigorous review of institutional quality, governance, academic standards, financial stability and student outcomes. Achieving accreditation demonstrates that Lighthouse has met nationally recognized benchmarks for educational excellence and accountability.

For students considering their next educational step, the timing could not be better. Access to Pell Grants, GI Bill benefits and Bright Futures funding can significantly reduce the cost of earning a degree while allowing students to remain connected to a faith-centered learning environment.

As word of the accreditation spreads, Lighthouse Christian College is poised to raise its profile not only throughout Northwest Florida but across the country. With expanded financial aid opportunities, growing athletic programs and a commitment to Christian higher education, school leaders say the institution is ready for its next season of growth.

For Lighthouse Christian College, the milestone represents more than a credential. It is a launch pad for expanding its mission and reaching more students seeking an affordable, accredited and Christ-centered path to higher education.
