Brock Gulley: A Journey to RESTORE

A major storm event in April 2014 resulted in 24 inches of rain in an eight-hour time frame, causing widespread flooding and many erosion problems on private lands in Santa Rosa County. A major problem that occurred during this storm was the formation of a large gully on the property owned by Jimmy Andajaur and Kari Brock in north-central Santa Rosa County. Overnight, a gully approximately 30 feet deep, 50 feet wide, and over a quarter mile long formed.

Aldi to acquire Winn-Dixie, Harveys Supermarket from Southeastern Grocers

German discount grocer Aldi has entered into a definitive agreement to acquire Winn-Dixie and Harvey’s Supermarket as part of a larger divestiture of Jacksonville-based parent company Southeastern Grocers to various entities. Financial terms of the transaction were not disclosed. The Southeast-focused acquisition includes approximately 400 Winn-Dixie and Harvey’s locations across Alabama, Florida, Georgia, Louisiana and Mississippi.

SRCAS hosting Community Cat Days Aug. 22 and 23

Santa Rosa County Animal Services is hosting Community Cat Days for Santa Rosa County residents Tuesday, Aug. 22, and Wednesday, Aug. 23, at Santa Rosa County Animal Shelter, 4451 Pine Forest Road in Milton. Up to 30 stray/feral cats will be accepted for free spay and neutering through community cats program funding.

In a rare event, law enforcement raided a local newsroom in Marion, Kansas, carrying out equipment, computers, cell phones and files. They also raided the publisher’s and the owner’s home. Apparently, the newspaper received a tip about a local restaurant owner’s drunk driving conviction. The paper chose not to publish any of the information.

Florida Power and Light donates $20,000 to support National Naval Aviation Museum’s new homeschool program

The Naval Aviation Museum Foundation (NAMF) is delighted to announce a recent contribution of $20,000 from Florida Power and Light Company (FPL) towards the museum’s new Homeschool Academy. The check presentation ceremony took place on the base Friday morning, Aug.11.

Homeschool Academy: The Museum Classroom was initiated by NAMF in January 2023, with a focus on families homeschooling children aged 5 to 18. FPL’s generous grant will enable NAMF to extend the program’s reach throughout the entire school year, benefiting the homeschooling community.
