Stuff the Bus garnered $78K in school supplies, donations in 2025

| Staff Reporters
This July, Stuff the Bus, the annual donations drive organized by United Way of West Florida, brought together Escambia and Santa Rosa County residents to support local schools and students for the 2025-26 school year.
Stuff the Bus is an annual donation drive benefitting schools in Escambia and Santa Rosa counties.

Held at six Walmart stores across Escambia and Santa Rosa counties, this year’s event raised over $78,000 in donations and sponsorships. It also collected enough supplies for every school in both counties, ensuring students are equipped for a successful year.

“Stuff the Bus is a powerful reminder of what our community can accomplish when we unite together for a shared purpose” said Laura Gilliam, President and CEO of United Way of West Florida, “At United Way of West Florida, we believe every child deserves the tools to thrive-and today, we made that possible through the generosity of our donors, volunteers, and partners.”

More than 300 volunteers across both counties came together to collect and organize donated supplies, contributing over 1,000 hours of service. Their efforts reflect the compassion and spirit that define our community.

For the event, the United Way of West Florida partners annually with Escambia County Public Schools (ECPS), Santa Rosa County District Schools (SRCDS), Cat Country 98.7, News Radio 92.3 & 1620, Pensacola News Journal and WEAR Cares.

Stuff the Bus is part of United Way of West Florida’s broader commitment to expanding youth opportunity.

Through the Healthy Schools Escambia program, we support students year-round by addressing critical academic and health related barriers to success. Stuff the Bus helps ensure classrooms are fully stocked with the supplies students need to learn and Healthy Schools Escambia brings essential services directly to the schools.

Together, these initiatives help create learning environments where every child can thrive – academically, physically, and emotionally.

“I see firsthand how the supplies from Stuff the Bus immediately relieve stress for both the teachers and families,” Jessica Johnson, Healthy Schools Escambia coordinator at United Way of West Florida. “When students walk into a classroom with everything, they need it sets a positive tone for the entire school year. It helps build confidence, increases engagement, and removes one more barrier to learning.

Parents and students in need of supplies should contact their or school or district office for distribution details.
