Voters in Santa Rosa County are taking advantage of their opportunity to vote early.
As of 4:30 p.m. on Oct. 23, nearly 20 percent of registered voters in Santa Rosa County had already cast a ballot for November’s general election.
The Santa Rosa County Supervisor of Elections website showed that 28,286 votes had been cast out of 143,036 active voters, a turnout of 19.78%.
Republicans, who outnumber Democrats four to one in Santa Rosa County, led with 19,157 total votes cast. Democrats cast 5,030 ballots, and no-party affiliation voters cast 3,523 ballots.
More Republicans had voted in person early (14,156) compared to by mail (4,987). More democrats had voted by mail (2,703) rather than in person (2,327), though early voting was only three days in.

More than 2 million ballots had been cast statewide, with Republicans outpacing Democrats 954,657 to 845,413. Democrats lead in voting by mail, and Republicans lead in early voting turnout by nearly 200,000 votes.
The Nov. 5 ballot includes races for President of the United States, Santa Rosa County Commission, a run-off for a seat on the board of Santa Rosa District Schools and four Milton City Council seats. The specific races depend on where a voter lives in the county.
