Sims is currently on probation for unrelated offenses and was taken into custody of the MPD after discharging a firearm. The bullet hit a 17-year-old who was taken to Santa Rosa Medical Center for care before later bring transported to Sacred Heart Hospital for further treatment, and according to a MPD press release, the victim has since been treated and released.
SRMC was put on lockdown as a precaution, and emergency workers collaborated with the MPD officers to continue to provide care. Their response and cooperation played a critical role in protecting the victim.
Sims is charged with Culpable Negligence Inflicting Harm, which is a Misdemeanor offense. His bond is set at $2,500, and he remains on a hold in jail. The investigation into the incident remains ongoing.
