A Pace High School graduate has been awarded the prestigious Goldwater Scholarship. Juliana “Jules” Bates graduated from Pace High in 2019, and she is now a junior at the University of Alabama. Bates was a military kid and lived in places like Arizona and North Carolina, but her ties are here in Florida.

Marine veterans gather at The Hangar

A group of Marine veterans met at The Hangar in Milton to support a cause close to their hearts.

The USMC Combat Helicopter and Tiltrotor Association, also known as Pop A Smoke, raised funds on April 14 and 15 to refurbish the Marine Aviation Memorial Tower. They also used the opportunity to meet up with old and new friends.

Livestock officer charged with killing stray mule

Justice is being served for the stray mule that was shot and killed on Tuesday, April 12. Philip Alan Hayes has been charged with felony for torturing or inflicting pain, serious injury, or death on an animal, as well as a misdemeanor for the inhumane slaughter of livestock. Hayes turned himself in to the Santa Rosa County Sheriff’s Office around 10 p.m. on Monday, April 18, almost a week after the incident on Deaton Bridge Road in Milton. Hayes was released just after midnight.

Certified burner to blame for wildfire

A controlled burn turned into a wildfire on Friday, April 8, 2022. Firefighters with the Florida Forest Service’s Blackwater Forestry Center, in addition to other departments, fought a wildfire near Dickerson City Road at Garcon Point in Santa Rosa County beginning early on Friday afternoon.

Churches unite to help others this Easter season
